First Glazing Exhibit

About This Exhibit

First Glazing marks an important transition in my work with clay: these were the first pots I ever finished with glaze rather than paint. The pieces became an opportunity to begin exploring how color could interact with the forms themselves—flowing across surfaces, pooling in recesses, and changing character where different glazes overlap.

For this series, I worked primarily with steel blue and green glazes, applying them vertically across most of the pieces and allowing the colors to overlap and interact. The resulting surfaces have a muted, atmospheric quality, with the blue, green, and exposed edges working together to emphasize the geometric forms and carved details.

These pieces are exploratory by design. They document the beginning of my transition from treating clay as a surface to be painted toward discovering the possibilities of glaze as an integral part of the ceramic process.
