A partial illuminated manuscript in the Sipokhi writing system
Explore the Exhibit About This Exhibit About the Artist
The Aku Manuscript is a partial illuminated manuscript presenting the origin of the universe as
understood through the discoveries of modern science. Written in the Idrani language and rendered
in the Sipokhi script, the work treats scientific knowledge as the subject of a traditional manuscript
form, recasting concepts of cosmic origins, matter, energy, and the unfolding of the universe through
the visual language of an imagined historical document.
The manuscript is deliberately incomplete. Its illumination, calligraphy, and physical form invite
the viewer to imagine a culture in which the story of the universe is preserved and transmitted through
revered texts. The Aku Manuscript therefore explores the intersection of science, language, and material
culture, asking what a scientific account of cosmic origins might look like if it had been recorded
within the manuscript traditions of the Idrani world.
